Goodwill hunting...

It was a good day at Goodwill... Hooper went first and sent me in to look at a bamboo dresser. By the time I got there more goods had been unloaded and when I turned the corner.... the lights dimmed, the stars aligned, music played and I saw this...

It was a bentwood dresser for $40 in PERFECT condition. This might not not mean much to you but it is exactly what I wanted for my daughters room (coming soon...). And if you need an over priced bamboo dresser in bad condition WITH potential it's still there.

Any scores lately? Please share...

My Powder Room Makeover

Okay, so it's me, Ann. This is not my powder room... It's Hooper's. I have hijacked the blog to show you what I deal with on a daily basis....

Last week, Hooper called me. Our conversation went a little something like this:
Hooper- Read broke the toilet seat, Now I have to get a new one today.
Me- that's a no fun purchase...
Hooper- Yeah, and the kids pulled the towel bar off the wall, so I need to replace that too... What do you think about me using that piece in my hallway as a vanity in there?
Me- (silent uh-oh) I think that would be pretty. Just curios, Is Read out of town?
Hooper- yeah, gets back tomorrow night....

BEFORE:
this is the before, after Hooper had already decided to redo her bathroom in a day...
(I got periodical phone calls through out the day reporting on the progress ...and reminding me of my shortcomings...) It's hard to be friends with an over achiever.

AFTER:
So Hooper popped the chest into the minivan and took it to the glass cutter that day, she scooted by Lowe's and grabbed the perfect color and a new light, sink, towel bar, etc...

Home Goods had the mirror and in about an hour, Hooper had everything she needed to complete the space. Hooper's plumber was available that afternoon! It was a  Christmas day miracle! Her painter wasn't available til the next day (what a slacker) soooo Hooper did it herself!
The piece from the hallway does look good as a vanity!

Practically anything can become a vanity thanks to vessel sinks and good plumbers (and miscellaneous furniture in your hallway)!

So much more room than a pedestal sink for accessories...

Go Lowe's, once again they rocked it in the lighting department...

Oh, did I forget the ceiling? If you have a little extra snake skin vinyl lying around (and who doesn't!?!?), wallpaper your ceiling...
And, no, I'm not exaggerating... this was done from conception to install in 24 hours... 24 HOURS PEOPLE!!!! And I'm no underachiever myself, it's just.... this is not normal. I'm off to go look at the mirror I want for my powder room down at The Eclectic (been eyeing it for a year).

May your Tuesday be over achiever productive and remember crack kills,

Mountain Master Reveal

We wanted a sanctuary for the client in the mountains and were inspired by the light woods often seen in lake houses. We brought the indigo from downstairs and added touches of turquoise. Take a look...
She wanted a canopy so we had this Noir Ferret bed made into a canopy by our fave carpenters at Sound Side.
I love the bedside lamps because the shape mimics the bed posts. They were vases that we turned into lamps!
We found this piece at a local auction and had it lacquered in high gloss white. I love how it turned out.
This is a great spot to enjoy the view.

The master bath is done in Alabama White Marble and a very cool gray "grass cloth" looking floor tile.

The World's Away pendant was originally bought for another space, but I just love it above the tub.
It's like a piece of jewelry. That's all folks! That's the last of the mountain house. Thanks for taking a tour with us, we hope you enjoyed it!

And for the clients under 5....

We wanted to give the playroom in the mountain house a fun fresh vibe. Lots of color (but not too much), and lots of organization so when the fun is over, the room can be put back together easily. When it was all said and done we all agreed that this might be our favorite space....

white walls are always a great choice in a playroom since everything else (toys included) have so much color.

pattern on pattern on pattern keeps things fun!

When someone (moi) leaves the table legs in Wilmington, just use logs from trees the landscaper just took down. BRILLIANT idea the client came up with! (Waaaay better then the table legs I left behind!)
A simple clothes line across the window was the perfect spot for the alphabet cards from London and soon will be a gallery for  art our clients children create.

Another fave for us was the Guest Study. It is narrow and cozy and so collected. Across the sofa is a wall of built-ins. The rug and ORIGINAL LUCITE BUTTERFLY TABLE (did you hear me?)were both London antique fair scores.
Hooper scored this metal chair that we had covered in teal velvet. The art is also a London antiques fair find.
Right outside the guest study are the stairs to the master. This was the perfect spot for the art the client found at auction. It continues the collected feel by tucking the art in a less than expected place.

The playroom was the perfect  combination of Hooper and my style while the guest study is right up my alley and easily top on my list as far as fave rooms go. Stay tuned because the Master bedroom and bathroom SCREAMS Hooper and is the perfect grand finale for the house!

What's your favorite space so far? We'd love to know!

Be our guest

The client came to us with a color scheme for the guest bedroom and then just let us take it from there.  She entertains a lot and with family and friends in and out, she wanted this room to be a retreat to her guests. Wouldn't you just LOVE to stay here?
We started with the Thibaut wallpaper as a jumping off point and added pops of green wherever we could.
Check out the ceiling...

The headboard is custom with nail head detailing.
Aren't the drapes gorgeous? They are silk and are from Overstock! What a find.

The client found the mid-century modern piece at a London auction. It's got a Mad Men vibe and serves as a dresser.Let us know what you think, we'd love to hear from you!

night, night.... kids bedrooms reveal!

Night, night sleep tight....don't let the bed bugs bite. Kids rooms can be challenging and fun! We wanted our clients 3 young kids to each feel like they had a special place of their own. Don't get freaked out when we say theme BUT each space had a very distinct direction...

The "Camp Room"....
what little boy wouldn't want a skull on their wall?

The "H" has a rustic rodeo vibe going on that we loved! Our client picked up the animal etchings in London.

Our client had wanted a bunk bed like this  from the start. It's like a bed meets playhouse meets storage unit. She reported back that when her son walked in he approved! (flipped really...)

"London" Room...

We couldn't do the house without a London room. The clients have been there for 8 years and all her children were born there. So the youngest boy got an inspired from across the pond room!

The art over the bed is from the book "This is London".

We picked up the grain sacks while we were in London at an antiques fair. We were excited to incorporate them into the space! We hope they always have fond memories of their time in London and never stop saying Mummy!

The "Nursery"....
The jumping off point for the nursery was the wallpaper and amazing vintage lamps Hooper found here in Wilmington. The Anthropologie drapes are perfect for a dreamy little girls space and the dresser was another London score! ....

The client sent us the Alice in Wonderland prints. We wanted the over sized lamps and punchy wallpaper to carry the Alice in Wonderland vibe through the room.
Right now a pack and play takes up residence at the end of the bed  but soon the sweet baby girl will feel like a princess sleeping in her big girl bed!

We hope our clients children feel special and proud of their spaces. Our clients took a lot of time making sure each space reflected the child. We love the outcome... what about you?
