The Color Purple

I just wrapped up a living room that I have been waiting to photograph because the final piece was an overdyed rug. It finally arrived after 1 year from Turkey. I found one last year at the furniture market and my client loved it. However, she needed a strange size (6'X11') so we had to have it made...
You may recall this house -- my grandmother "Mimi" grew up here in this beautiful tudor. It has had a few owners since and my client has done such a great job preserving its charm while adding some twists. Last year we gutted the bathroom and created a beautiful new space that was still in keeping with the old-world charm.
Eventually, we moved onto the living room which showcases this gorgeous original mantle. This living space is quite large with gorgeous woodwork. The client had the furniture and drapes and chocolate stark rug among traditional pieces. She wanted to add color and layers that make it feel more modern and fresh.
The metallic hide layered over a chocolate stark rug brightens up the dark floor and the suzani pattern on the ottoman adds color.

We kept the neutral sofas and added more neutrals with browns/taupes and grays.... oh, and pops of plum and green. Off to the side of the room, there is a small sitting area separated by a cased opening. This is the over-dyed rug we have been waiting for....

Her cool desk and chair are from The Coop -- very stylish and modern and a functional place to work in this cozy setting.
The client's daughter is quite the artist. She did a collection of these so we framed and hung all four. It is an traditional space with modern touches and unexpected pops of color...
                           bye bye birdie...
