Beach House BEFORE & AFTER

Recently, I had the privilege of working on a beach house to bring it up to date and make the furnishings and colors more current. The house was built on the ocean at Wrightsville Beach over 17 years ago. It has always been one of my favorite houses for the functional layout  and this client's view is the best on the island.

The living spaces had served their purpose well and the color palette of the year 2003 (red, gold and green - you remember!) was tired. It was time to move on and bring in neutrals with pops of colors from the sea.
We started by painting the large living room/dining space in Sherwin Williams "Sea Salt" to brighten up the space and make the room feel airy. The neutral beige disappeared and the room's personality evolved.
Come on in...

AFTER:
We removed the valances (always a good idea to make the ceiling seem taller and to bring in more light)

I chose a gorgeous Oriental from the Gallery of Oriental Rugs and we went with a larger size to make the room feel even bigger. I chose a sectional in a performance fabric in a textured cream and added nail heads for detail.
I kept their coffee table because I liked the size and the wood element. I chose a tray, some pretty coffee table books and accessories to dress it up.
Lacefield pillows and custom sewn pillows in watery fabrics layer the sectional.

The room boasts a great deal of built-ins for storage, components  and a hidden bar.
They were originally finished in a whitewashed pickled finish that dated the look and made the room feel heavy. We had them sprayed in an ivory satin for a factory finish. With new glass knobs, these built-ins look like brand new cabinetry for a fraction of the cost.
A custom spool chair in a driftwood finish adds extra seating and the client's end tables were reused, just repositioned.
Gorgeous lighting from Currey and Company flank the sectional and add pops of color to the neutral palette.
BEFORE:
Now the beautiful outdoors (can you believe this view?)
and now the soothing indoors  feel like one open space....
bye bye birdie...

My favorite thing about your beach house is all the sitting room. This summer I am in charge of a family retreat with my siblings and their spouses. In all there will be twelve couples. We will be socializing all weekend and need a seat for everyone. This is why I love your beach house.
